05 Jun Hearing Dogs assembly at Crofton HAmmond Junior School for “The Big Write Week”
I was invited to come in and tell the children at Hammond all about the role of Hearing Dogs in Deaf people’s lives. To make it more authentic, I invited my friend Sally along, with her Hearing Dog, Orla.
Before I introduced them I talked to the children about how d/Deaf know if someone is at the door, or how they would know if there was a fire. I showed them different technology which d/Deaf people use to help with this.
Then I introduced Sally and Orla, Sally did a wonderful job of telling the children all about how important Orla is to her.
The children asked lots of really good questions, which I interpreted and Sally answered. I think we could have stayed all morning answering questions, but it was very hot and Orla needed a rest!
